Zombie Teenage State

A big high-five goes to Ellie over at Over,Under,Sideways,Down for putting me on to Swiss duo Larytta.

Comprised of Guy Meldem and Christian Pahud and founded in 2004, Larytta have released 2 EP's so far and (I think) their debut album Difficult Fun is due for release this year.

Whilst their sound is mainly electro-pop, it has elements of hip hop, R&B and soul. Listening to the title track from their second EP - Ya-Ya-Ya, there's a definite carnival vibe, and the whole thing reads like it should be horrible, but the result is brilliant.

Summer Lovin'

It's a Saturday night, I should really be out doing something far more interesting... but nevermind that.

Whilst hibernating in my rubiks cube sized box room, I just came across this gem of act - Shooting Spires.

It's the "bedroom art-pop" project of Parts & Labor bassist/vocalist BJ Warshaw, and while I'm not particularly enamoured with his main project, I can't help but fall in love with his debut and self-titled album under this guise.

Released in late 2007, Shooting Spires is a great experimental album which borders on industrial in parts. It's all a bit muddled, and the lyrics are almost undecipherable underneath all the layering but it blends well and conveys a great deal of emotion and warmth and that's it's strength.

I'm done sounding like a journalist now, but it's a perfect album for these late summer nights.

MAJOR G33KOUT

I don't think I've been this excited since... since... since...?!

The last time that two of my all time musical heroes collaborated with each other as individuals to create an album - it practically invented sampling and changed the way people thought about music. It was 1981 and the album was called My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.

The two individuals in question? David Byrne and Brian Eno.

It's called Everything That Happens Will Happen Today and will be available exclusively from http://www.everythingthathappens.com/ from August 18th. On top of that, David Byrne will be touring the record from September, although it's just the US who'll have the privilege for the moment.

In the meantime, there's a free track available for download in exchange for mailing list sign up, and it has seriously got me twitching with anticipation. Here it is for all of you lazy people who won't take two minutes to sign up.

You Gotta Feel It

What an absolute tune this is...

I got a hold of it about two weeks ago and it was untagged, cue a massive all out search to find out who it was by so I can fix the tags for Last.fm (because I'm a pedant like that).

So two weeks pass and with the help of a friend, I finally realise something I should have known all along. It was by The Shoes.

With foot stomping bass and a neat little riff towards the end, Keep That Control features Washington's Scream Club, consisting of the delightfully named female duo Cindy Wonderful and Sarah Adorable.

Whilst the sassy rappers are new to me, it seems they have released two LP's and have been featured on a number of compilations. They are also touring Europe at the moment and though out September.
